Knee Pain

Acute Knee Injuries

Knee pain can be a result of a traumatic injury such as twisting or a direct impact to the knee (the ground or another person!!). Tissues that are often injured are the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), Medial/Lateral Meniscus and medial

/lateral collateral ligaments (MCL/LCL).

Anterior Knee Pain

Pain that is felt around and under the knee cap in the joint between the patella and thigh bone (femur) called Patella-Femoral Pain (PFP) and can be associated with clicking and crunching sounds. It is rarely associated with serious damage and is often related to weak and tight muscles around the hip, knee and ankle joints

Through detailed assessment based on subjective history, mechanism of injury and physical assessment, physiotherapy can provide a differential diagnosis and plan an individualised treatment plan.
